Accent Development (AMPS-AD)

The AMPS-Accent Development program (AMPS-AD) was the first AMPISys system to fully incorporate the new multiple-modality perspective. Since the mid 1970s, we have been involved in research and practice in L2 accent improvement. The current version is (simply) more engaging and comprehensive. The ultimate goal of all AMPS systems is to fit them in a virtual reality environment where much of an L2 sound system is taught without the direct intervention of an instructor.

AMPS-AD involves most of the same procedures (protocols) in AMPS-EP, AMPS-BE and some of the teacher training systems, e.g., AMPS-NNEST. It differs, however, in three ways. AMPS-AD:

-Is best done in small groups of three to six participants. One-on-one programs may be contracted but are strongly NOT recommended.

-Programs are at least 6 months in duration, beginning with a “standard” PIE Orientation Training.

-Involves more extensive, systematic homework and online follow up.
